It is called Juvenile Diabetes and is not at all the same as Type 2 Diabetes which is the one that you hear about it the news ALL the time. Juvenile Diabetes is an auto immune disease that usually happens in kids, however, adults may get Type 1. (Jay Cutler for example, quarterback for Chicago Bears was diagnosed with Type 1 a few years ago) So, your immune system attacks your pancreas, and the cells that produce and secrete insulin. You make NO INSULIN. Period. So, this means you have to inject or infuse insulin via syringe or insulin pump. This is not a perfect solution. No matter how hard you try with insulin therapy, exericise, diet, etc., your blood sugars are not regulated. This causes a TON of health problems, and concern for complications later in life. How do I know so much about this ? I am a mother of a Type 1 Diabetic. She is 9 and was diagnosed at age 5. She will have this disease forever. There is no cure.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5472921328078253036.post-1187349547188743602010-02-28T08:16:23.759-08:002010-02-28T08:16:23.759-08:00Hi,

I am a medical professional (Nuclear medicine Technologist) and I am related to a person with IDDM.
I think you stated the obstacles in areasonable perspective, and I applaud that. There is much noise surrounding this, so i appreciatte your clear writing. I wish i could verify ALL that you wrote, i cannot. i am not an expert in this particular set of treatments. But from scattered info I have personally come accross..everything you wrote seems accuratte.
Please soldier on and write of anything else you find that might help others.
I wonder if there have been any developments for stem cell therapy(without immuno-supreesing drugs) since your article?
I am searching the internet..and wondering about that.
G BarryAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
