A few companies are working on the development of a wearable artificial (a.k.a. bionic) pancreas, including Pancreum (www.pancreum.com).Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14610987360627033503noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5472921328078253036.post-10860208093916397802015-09-08T03:27:00.602-07:002015-09-08T03:27:00.602-07:00When you summarize any piece of writing a good rul...When you summarize any piece of writing a good rule to follow is that your summary should be 50% or less in word count of the original. Remember the purpose of a summary is to simplify the original and make it easy to digest. However, with regard to letting the market decide on which of the AP technologies or pieces of equipment should prevail fails to take into account the economic power of the major companies and their ability to materially influence the decisions made by doctors in terms of what they recommend to their patients and regulators in terms of what devices they approve. There are literally hundreds of millions of dollars at stake here. I blog often about the business aspects of medicine and my experience and reading suggest that most people are very uniformed consumers of medicine. They don't look at readily available information about their doctors or the hospitals to which their doctors send them. They don't get second opinions. Furthermore, the fee for service profit motive has been shown over and over again to influence the conduct of some health care providers. Let's hope that effective AP's don't get pushed to the side because of factors other than how well they perform.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06071716071019083613noreply@blogger.com
